  • Safety and Assurance for Entry into China

    Regulations on Infectious Diseases for Entry into China

    1. Pre-entry Declaration: All inbound travelers are required to truthfully complete the health declaration via the "Customs Travelers' Finger Service" mini-program(searchable on WeChat) prior to arrival at Chinese customs. The declaration must include information on whether the traveler has symptoms related to infectious diseases, such as fever (≥37.3℃), cough, fatigue, or diarrhea, as well as travel history in the past 14 days.

    2. Post-entry Prevention and Control Measures: Upon entry, travelers must cooperate with customs for temperature checks and verification of health declaration information. On-site nucleic acid testing may be required if necessary. Within 7 days after entry, if any suspected symptoms of infectious diseases occur, travelers must immediately call the hotline of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention at 12320, or contact the MedLink China 24/7 Service Team. Full cooperation with health authorities for screening, quarantine, and treatment is mandatory in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases.

    3. Handling of Special Cases: Travelers diagnosed with or suspected of having major infectious diseases (COVID-19, plague, cholera, etc.) shall be transferred to designated infectious disease hospitals in China for treatment. After recovery, they may resume normal activities and depart the country only upon presentation of supporting documents issued by the hospital, such as a discharge certificate and a negative nucleic acid test report.

    Notes from Chinese Immigration and Customs Authorities for Medical Travel

    1. Declaration of Entry Purpose: Upon entry, travelers must voluntarily declare the purpose of medical travel to immigration and customs officials, and present supporting documents including the hospital appointment confirmation letter, MedLink China service confirmation letter, and itinerary. Avoid vague declarations (e.g., stating "tourism" incorrectly) to prevent entry obstruction.

    2. Regulations on Carrying Medical-related Items

    - Prescription Drugs: Travelers must carry the English prescription issued by the overseas physician (specifying the purpose of medication, dosage, and duration of use). Drugs must be kept in their original packaging (with English instructions), and the quantity shall not exceed the reasonable medical needs for the trip (generally no more than a 3-month supply). Carrying controlled drugs such as narcotics and psychotropic substances (e.g., morphine, diazepam) is prohibited unless a special permit is obtained from Chinese customs in advance.

    - Medical Devices: Carrying medical equipment such as wheelchairs, blood glucose meters, and ventilators requires advance declaration to customs, along with a medical necessity certificate issued by the hospital. Duty-free entry is permitted after verification.

    - Prohibited Items: It is strictly forbidden to carry unquarantined blood products, biological samples, animal or plant products, counterfeit or substandard drugs, controlled knives, etc. For details, refer to the List of Prohibited Items for Entry on the official website of Chinese customs.

    3. Visa and Stay Duration Requirements

    - Medical Visa: Suitable for patients requiring treatment longer than 30 days. Applications must be submitted to Chinese embassies or consulates abroad in advance, with supporting documents including the hospital invitation letter, overseas medical records, copy of passport, and visa application form. The visa is generally valid for 3–6 months, allowing single or multiple entries, with a maximum stay of 180 days.

    - Visa-free / Transit Visa Exemption: Suitable for patients requiring short-term treatment (see policy details below). If the permitted stay duration is insufficient, an extension can be applied for with the assistance of MedLink China 7 working days before the expiration date(a hospital-issued certificate stating "need for extended treatment" is required) to avoid illegal overstay;

    - Important Note: The stay duration for all inbound travelers is calculated from 00:00 on the day following entry. Compliance with the permitted stay limit is mandatory; overstay will affect future eligibility for entry into China.

    4.
